Grading for Kindergarten through 3rd Grade

Class Participation
Each class period is only 45 minutes long and students need to come ready to learn. The classroom rules help to build a respectful learning environment while minimize disruptions. Students are assigned a behavior grade each class period. The behavior grade is listed on the report card as a 1, 2, 3, or 4.


1 - Follows the classroom and school rules, contributes to classroom discussions in an orderly manner and uses class time wisely
2 - Usually follows the classroom and school, usually contributes to classroom discussions in an orderly manner, and usually uses class time wisely.
3 - Needs to be frequently reminded of classroom and school rules, discussion protocol, how to use time wisely.
4 - Cannot adhere to classroom and/or school rules as well as discussion protocol. Does not use timely wisely.


Content Grades
Content grading is divided into three different areas: skill, assignment, and project.


Skill Grades
A skill grade is graded each class period. Skill are assessed as a 1, 2, 3, or 4.
1 - The student has grasped the skill and can apply it independently.
2 - The student has grasped the skill after some reteaching.
3 - The student requires considerable reteaching of the skill.
4 - The student cannot or does not attempt to apply the skill.


Assignment Grades
Some lessons are one day lessons that may or may not be part of a larger project. These assignments are graded using the following criteria:
1 - The assignment is completed in a timely manner and with the best representation of the individual student's ability.
2 - The assignment is completed outside of required time frame. The assignment is a good representation of the individual student's ability.
3 - The assignment is completed outside of the required time frame or is not completed. The assignment is a poor representation of the individual student's ability.
4 - The assignment is not handed in.


Project Grades
Projects will be graded with a rubric. The rubrics will be available on the lesson page.
