July Newsletter

 - by Linden Hill

It is our practice to provide families with a mid-summer update sharing what has been happening over the past few weeks at school as well as to share with families some information about the start of the school year. So let me begin:

While staffing is not finalized at this point in time there is some news to share:

At the June board meeting, Mrs. Brady was appointed principal of Linden Hill.

Mr. Guy Brasure, our chief custodian, has taken a position in the district maintenance department. Joining us as our new Chief Custodian is Adam Gibson. Welcome, Mr. Gibson! Please also join us in welcoming Susan Palmer who will be joining the Linden Hill staff as well as Sue Peo who will be teaching band classes at Linden Hill this year. Although Mrs. Murphy will still be with us, she will be focusing on music and chorus.

Please take a moment to look at the enclosed calendar for the coming school year. We ask that you refer to this calendar when making appointments or scheduling vacations for the upcoming school year and that for the sake of continuity of instruction that you do not schedule any vacations during the school days as the district considers these unexcused absences without the opportunity for make-up work.

In addition, information regarding other school and district happenings can be accessed through the Red Clay website at (www.redclay.k12.de.us) or through our website (www.lindenhill.redclay.k12.de.us). Linden Hill’s website is also available to families via phone.

This year our welcome back activity will be on Thursday, August 23rd. Children and families are invited to meet their teachers and visit their classrooms from 3:00-4:00. Hopefully, this advance notice will allow our working families time to adjust their schedules and enable all to attend. Our PTA will be providing treats on the playground from 4:00-5:00 and all are invited to enjoy and mingle. We encourage and invite all of our families to become actively involved in our PTA and sign up to volunteer for a committee as we consider your participation a critical component in your child’s school success.

If your child will be attending daycare before and/or after school you must complete a Daycare Transportation Form which is available on our website or in the school office. This form must be completed every year, even if the information is the same as last year. If your child will be picked up/dropped off via our car rider line, a car rider form must be completed. This form is also available on our website or in the school office. Please complete these forms as soon as possible so that we may pass this information along to the Transportation Office for bus assignment purposes. Transportation will send out a mailer out in late August. Please check for accuracy.

In conclusion, we anticipate informing families about class assignments in late August. Teachers will be making personal phone calls to welcome their students the week of August 20th .We ask that you please not call the office to secure this information as it is often necessary to make last minute adjustments in order to balance class sizes. If you would like information about your child’s classroom supplies, please check our website ( www.lindenhill.redclay.k12.de.us) once you know your child’s teacher as this information will be posted on teachers’ web pages. Lastly, given that the opening size of students’ lockers is only 6” wide- we ask that you please not purchase book bags on wheels or large lunch boxes as they will not fit in the lockers and there is not sufficient room in the classrooms to store them. Thank you for your attention to these matters and if we can help in any way, please do not hesitate to call on us. We look forward to seeing you on August 23rd for the Meet and Greet and/or August 27th for the “first day.” We wish you a happy summer and a successful school year.

Sincerely,

Deborah M. Brady, Principal

Nathan Palkovitz, Assistant Principal
