May/June Newsletter

Dress Code

With the onset of warmer weather, we expect that our air conditioning units will be up and running. However, the children will continue to enjoy outside recess on a daily basis. Therefore, it is important that they wear appropriate clothing and footwear to insure their comfort and safety. We ask that children do not wear flip flops or any sandals that do not have a strap back as this will help prevent twisted ankles and hurt toes. Also, please take a minute to review the Student Dress Code found on page 18 of the Code of Conduct.

Car Line Courtesy

Please continue to honor the car line rules and respect our neighbors as you drop off and pick up your children.  This includes staying in the line of traffic both in the school circle and on New Kent Road.

DCAS

As communicated last month, there will be 2 opportunities for students in grades 3-5 to take DCAS Reading and Math.  Students in grades 3-5 who achieved a PL4 in the first round of spring DCAS (Reading/Math) may be excused from the second DCAS opportunity with parental permission.  A letter will be coming home with eligible students.

Fifth Grade Move Up Ceremony

We will be having our 5th grade move up ceremony on Thursday, June 7th at 1:30. This is a time for you and your 5th grade student.  Students may invite 2 adult (18 or older) guests inclusive of family members. We thank you in advance for making child care arrangements for younger siblings and/ or other children. School age siblings will need to remain in class as this ceremony is during instructional time.

Field Day – May 25

Linden Hill will have field day on May 25.  The schedule of events will be different from former years in that grades k, 4 and 5 will have their events from 9:15 – 11:15 and grades 1, 2, and 3 will have their events from 12:30 – 2:30.  An added highlight to the day will be assemblies by Yo Jo on healthy eating. Please know that due to the high volume of volunteers that we anticipate for field day we will be asking that, barring emergencies, all families adhere to the regular dismissal times and not request early dismissal. This is to insure student safety.

A Reminder as We Plan for Next School Year

Thank you to all who have returned the form confirming your intentions to return to Linden Hill for the 2012-2013 school year.

Homeroom assignments are made during the summer months. Please know that at Linden Hill we do not accept requests for specific teachers. If, however, you have information about the learning style of your child, a teaching style that you feel is beneficial to your child, and/or information relative to social interactions with others, you may submit that information in writing to the office by the end of May, 30.  New letters need to be submitted each year. We do look at all information on children before making any classroom assignments.

As we begin to wind down this school year, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all staff, students and to you, our families, for all that you do to make Linden Hill a wonderful learning community! We look forward to sharing the remainder of the year with you, wish you a safe and restful summer and look forward to seeing you all in August!

Sincerely,

Debbie Brady, Principal
