DCAS

As has been shared previously, our DCAS testing window is not limited to designated weeks as was the administration of the previous state assessment.  Our DCAS testing window spans mid-March until June.

For Spring DCAS students will be tested in the following subjects:

  • Reading- Grades 3-5 have 2 spring testing opportunities for highest score
(Grade 2 once in spring only)  Students scoring a PL4 will be able to opt out of the second test with parent permission ( more to come on this).
  • Mathematics- Grades 3-5 have 2 spring  opportunities for highest score
(Grade 2 once in spring only)  Students scoring a PL4 will be able to opt out of the second test with parent permission ( more to come on this).
  • Social Studies- Grade 4  (spring)
  • Science- Grade 5 (spring)

Given the high stakes and the higher bar for accountability – it is critical that we have your help.

You will or have already received test information from your child’s teacher letting you know of your child’s DCAS spring test dates.

  • It is important that you talk with your child about taking this assessment and doing their best
  • It is important that your child comes to school on time on his/her testing days- no vacations, appointments, or early dismissals should be scheduled on these days
  • Children should have a good night’s rest before testing and a good breakfast and lunch

Results for this assessment will be mailed home to families by the State in the summer.  Families of students in grades 4 and 5 may access scores via HAC.  Additional information regarding DCAS can be found on the Department of Education’s website at www.doe.state.de.us or on the Red Clay website.

The Final Quarter

The last quarter of school is usually accompanied by much excitement.  Children are excited about warmer weather, longer days, sports activities, field trips and impending summer fun.  As we usher in the final marking period, we encourage you to continue to maintain the routines that you have established for your child. Getting to bed at a regular time, eating a good breakfast, and having an established homework routine are especially important for children in order for them to come to school ready to learn – and there are many more learning adventures to come!

Have a wonderful spring and we encourage you to take some time to notice the “blossoming” effect that it has on your child!

Communicating with us

We encourage open lines of communication at Linden Hill and you have many avenues through which you may share information with us (e-mail, written notes, phone, etc.).  Please know that when you do reach out to us we will respond within 48 hours.  If you e-mail and do not get an immediate reply, it is due to the fact that teachers are instructing children during the day and are only at computers at their planning times or at the end of the day.  If you need to get a message to someone immediately, please call the office 454-3406.
